YOUR NEW ARTIST SUPERSTAR

People of any and all variety,

Today, it is to be declared that there is a new artist superstar in town. This declaration is not an act of persuasion, nor is it a plea for validation. It's a proclamation of self-realization, an assertion of the artist's inherent right to define and shape both the current artistic landscape and the artist's own narrative as they see fit

”I am not here to illustrate a specific idea or to neatly wrap a narrative, but to be messy and loud, to disrupt and provoke, to scream when others whisper. To unapologetically take up space by refusing to obey rules the art world has made up that demand conformity and adherence to a singular narrative, an art world that at times seems to be more interested in keeping control than nurturing free artistic expression. In order for there to be true freedom, chaos must be not only embraced but also actively nurtured; alternative thoughts and ideas, different from the authorities in the art establishment, must be allowed space. Therefore, I aim to find new methods of showcasing art, and by doing so, find ways to bypass the gatekeepers of the art world, sidestep the established order, and see if I can carve out a place in the top level of artistic acclaim”

This is the first step in a project that promises to unfold over time, with the aim not only to break down barriers of the art world but also to build bridges. The mission transcends mere disruption; it is a rallying cry for inclusivity, accessibility, and the acknowledgment of diverse perspectives, aiming to democratize the art world. Its vision is to challenge established norms while igniting curiosity and creativity in those who may not typically engage with galleries or museums. Ultimately, it seeks to showcase the transformative potential of art—not only to unite and inspire but also to honor diverse viewpoints and stimulate critical thought.

And with that, the first phase of a new art project is launched, laying the foundation for a larger-scale initiative where the current state of the art world is challenged and the possibilities of art in contemporary society is reimagined.

The 'Your New Artist Superstar' posters and catalogs are meant to ignite a critical dialogue around authority and representation in the art world, posing fundamental questions about who holds sway over artistic discourse and opportunity. Can artists seize control of their own narratives? This phase seeks to disrupt the authority traditionally wielded by gatekeepers—who decide exhibition opportunities, allocate funding, and thereby determine whose voices are heard. By reclaiming autonomy and circumventing the existing system, the project aims not only to carve out space within existing frameworks but also to explore the creation of new platforms.

As part of the project, catalogs featuring the artist's work alongside a declaration of their presence have been sent out to a diverse mix of individuals who wield influence across various spheres within Norwegian culture. The foundation of the list has been based on the Subjects ”Culture Norways 100 Most powerful People" (Kultur-norges 100 mektigste mennesker”) and its ”Art Norways 50 post powerful people”  (Dette er kunst-Norges 50 mektigste) lists and therefther expanded to include even more art collectors, curators, newspapers, and members of various art foundations found outside of the lists. Also, people from other creative fields in Norway have been reached out to. The catalogs, with their opening text, act as invitations to participate in a dialogue about exploring new horizons for art and the potential to integrate art into diverse aspects of society beyond galleries and museums."

Simultaneously with the distribution of catalogs, a poster campaign featuring posters with the 'Your New Artist Superstar' text on them, along with text from the catalog, has been launched across the city, with ongoing placement of posters in new locations, targeting diverse demographics within the city's population. Additionally, to expand outreach efforts, a synchronized digital campaign will run throughout the week, marking the initial phase of the project. Through these initiatives, the public is invited to engage in dialogue about the current state and future potential of the art world."
